Grateful Dead - Live at Capital Centre 9 March 1992 - Landover, MD

Check out this quality 1992 performance by the Grateful Dead. The 11 min "Row Jimmy" hits multiple highs. A "Satisfaction" encore and the fact that Jerry missed most of the "Corrina > Dark Star" jam could turn one away from this show. However, this is a perfect SBD posted to Archive.org by Rob Harrison. Definately worth checking out!

Dubconscious Pics 9/10/2010 - See Bliss Photography

Dubconscious brought their electro-dub sound to the Crowbar in Ybor City, FL on Sept. 9. Lucky for us Clint Bliss of See Bliss Photography was there to capture the moment with his camera. The Groves and Shaun Hopper opened the evening with quality sets. There was also more than just musical art being produced. Artists Bean Spence and Brian Barnard busted out their canvases and paint brushes and created works of their own art during the show. Looks like a good time.
The Crowbar is quickly becoming one of the elite venues that the Tampa area has to offer for bands that we all like to see! Check out their upcoming dates here: http://www.crowbarlive.com/.
Thanks for the hard work Clint!! Enjoy the pics...

From what I hear moe.down was tight yet again this year. The music ran fluidly until closing out with moe. each night at 2 am. The 2 stage set up allows fans the opportunity to not miss an act, a far cry from big daddy festivals like Bonnaroo! Here is the pictorial story that our buddy Andy Hill and his camera told from moe.down 2010. Thanks Andy!

Northcoast Music Fest Shots - Tim Hara Photography

The Northcoast Music Fest will likely be the final quality festival held north of the Mason Dixon this year. It had a sweet lineup that featured acts like the Disco Biscuits, Umphrey's McGee, De La Soul, The Chemical Brothers and Nas and Damian Marley to name a few. Who could ask for a better location? The Chi is definately one of the hottest spots to see live music and even when there are no festivals there, the scene still rages.
I want to give a big up to Tim Hara. Tim is on the music scene in the midwest on the reg and he is always so gracious to share his pics with us. These shots fall in as all of the others do, they're sick! Some of the photos were also taken by Tim's homie Kyle Buckland. Ladies, if you ever see these guys at a show make sure that you give them a big hug and kiss and thank them for putting in such sweet work. Fellas a hand shake will do!
Tim offers his professional photography and graphic design services to the masses as well. Check out his website and holler at him if you are in need of his services. Thanks again Tim and Kyle - great shots!

I will have another round of Northcoast Fest pics coming at you from Brad Johnson Photography soon....Enjoy!

Umphrey's McGee Announces New Year's Eve 2010 Plans

Umphrey's McGee plans to kick it in their home town of Chicago, Il for another NYE extravaganza. The 3 night run will go down at the Riviera Theater. UM are no strangers to the Riv and it will definately be a sought after run for fans. They released this article with a complete list of tour dates:

Throwback Umphrey's McGee Shots - 12 April 2007 - A. Hill Photogrpahy

Today, Umphrey’s McGee rounds out their fall tour plans with newly confirmed dates in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Champaign, Illinois; Burlington, Vermont; Washington D.C, and others. Also announced today, Umphrey’s McGee will spend New Year’s Eve in their hometown of Chicago for one more year, this time at the city’s Riviera Theatre on December 29, 30 and 31. The band’s complete list of fall dates is included below.

As the band’s keyboardist Joel Cummins explains about their tenth New Year’s in Chicago, and their last for at least a while, "We've played nearly every room in Chicago over the course of our career, to continue keeping things interesting, we've chosen one of our favorite venues in the city this year, the Riviera Theatre, with a perfect combination of lots of open floor for dancing and seats in the balcony with great sight lines. We can't wait to feel the energy in this legendary Chicago haunt explode!"

As always, along the band’s fall dates Umphrey’s continues to raise the bar for fan experiences, with their innovative and interactive Stew Art events planned in at least a few markets, and an incredibly creative first-time offer of “Enhanced Experience” fan packages for their always-epic Halloween Monster Mash-Up in St. Louis on October 30 and 31, and for their New Year’s Eve run.

For the Halloween shows, “Partyin' Peeps Enhanced Experience” fan package amenities include express entry into the venue each night, a limited edition Halloween Jeff Wood 3D hologram poster, VIP area access with private cocktail service, an exclusive piece of Umphrey's McGee Halloween merchandise, a private post-show party, and more. At the Platinum Partyin' Peeps level, fans get a chance for them and twenty of their friends to have their own private dressing room backstage, a private meet and greet photo session with the band in costume, a tour of the Umphrey's McGee bus, and more. Meanwhile in Chicago, New Year’s Eve travel package amenities include downtown lodging, early entry and reserved balcony seats, VIP section access, a pre-show “Very Happy Hour,” merchandise including the official UM Track Jacket, limited edition NYE posters, and each night’s UM Live recording, an exclusive lighting demonstration by the band’s light designer, and a meet and greet with the band. Visit www.umphreys.com more all the details.

Umphrey’s McGee will host their Stew Art Series (aka, “S2”) – an interactive fan experience where audience members “conduct” the band’s live improvisations - in at least of few markets along the fall tour. Presented as individual events before that evening’s already schedule show, Umphrey’s Stew Art Series is a crowd-sourced improvisation experiment, in which all the music performed by the group on stage is entirely directed by S2 audience members. Check out this S2 video from the inaugural S2 event in Milwaukee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYJn64XRGXU.

S2 events have been received with overwhelming enthusiasm and to rave reviews. For S2, sold-out crowds of 50 fans submit their ideas by texting descriptive words, phrases, and pop culture references (pretty much whatever comes to mind), to the Umphrey's Mozes mobile interface. The suggestions are then filtered by the band’s long time Sound Caresser Kevin Browning and projected on a screen for the band to digest and turn into the next phase of the jam. The band’s music varies stylistically with suggestions ranging from “an afternoon bus ride in Jamaica” to “drinking pina coladas…in a hurricane”. As one elated fan commented after a show, “S2 was the coolest thing I have ever been a part of. It’s always been a dream of mine to meet the band, and the opportunity to participate in leading the Jam for the band was a dream come true as well.” Stay tuned to www.umphreys.com for confirmation on S2 fall events.

Blackwater Fest Pics - Clint Bliss Photography (See Bliss Photography)

I would like to welcome Clint Bliss to the LMS photography contributor's staff. Clint is based out of the sunshine state and is doing some pretty amazing work. Check out the shots that he took at the Blackwater Music Fest a few weeks ago. The slide show is pretty lengthy, but worth a few minutes of your time. Apart from the sweet angles that he hooked up of the bands, the glowing and sometimes humorous shots of the fans are where it's at! Thank you Clint, and we look forward to your next shoot!

Big Gigantic Releases - A Place Behind the Moon - Today

Big Gigantic - Brad Johnson Photography

Big Gigantic has made a "gigantic" name for themselves over the past year. Their success over the past 6 months can be greatly contributed to their presence on the festival scene. If you went to any of the medium to large, even small festivals this season, then you likely saw Big Gigantic throw down their acid jazz dance beats. They relesed their first album today - A Place Behind the Moon. I would highly recommend that you give it a listen. Following is what they released in support of the new album and upcoming tour dates:

A Place Behind The Moon explores a unique mixture of electronic and acoustic styles, clearly defining the vision that brainchild and saxophonist/producer, Dominic Lalli, and drummer, Jeremy Salken both conceived and mastered. This sophomore effort is the strongest statement to date by Big Gigantic and it effortlessly combines saxophone and syncopated drum rhythms with intoxicating, intertwining electronic undertones, truly bringing a unique sound to the evolving, electronic genre. A Place Behind The Moon demonstrates how Big Gigantic successfully delves deep into the future of electronic music, while staying in touch with their own musical roots, to ultimately create a history all their own.
